Laser Vision Correction
Since the late 1970's ophthalmologists have treated nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism in patients all over the world with surgery, allowing them to experience a new kind of freedom. Dr. Haight was the first surgeon in the East County area to do radial keratotomy, in 1984. 1988 marked the dawning of a new era in vision correction with the advent of the excimer laser. Dr. Haight has been performing excimer laser refractive procedures since 1995, with excellent results.
PRK
The magic of Photo Refractive Keratectomy (PRK) is a surgical precision unprecedented in human history. Excimer Laser power coupled with today's computers allows one laser pulse to remove as little as one quarter of a micrometer (or micron) of corneal tissue. This is exquisite control! In PRK the focusing power of glasses or contact lenses is sculpted directly unto the cornea or front window of the eye, with no flap needed.
LASIK
Laser in-situ keratomileusis, or LASIK, is generally a safe and effective treatment for a wide range of refractive errors. The laser permanently changes the shape of the cornea, the clear covering of the front of the eye. In LASIK, a flap is made with a knife or laser, and the correcting surgical treatment is done under the flap. This allows faster healing and faster visual recovery.
